Kylie Masse of Lasalle, Ont., came 0.31 seconds shy of a medal in the Olympic women’s 100m backstroke final on Tuesday in Paris.

Kaylee McKeown of Australia touched the wall at 57.33 seconds to set an Olympic record and strike gold.

Americans Regan Smith (57.66) and Katharine Berkoff (57.98) took silver and bronze, respectively.

Fellow Canadian Ingrid Wilm of Calgary finished sixth in the same event.

Earlier on Tuesday, Montreal’s Ilya Kharun advanced to the men’s 200m butterfly final with the third-best time in the semifinal.

The medal event is set for Wednesday at 2:37 p.m. ET.
