Toronto’s island airport could remain in operation until least 2045, after council agreed Wednesday to extend the facility’s lease by up to a dozen years.
In the latest chapter of the decades-long debate over the divisive air hub on the city’s waterfront, councillors voted to approve a motion from Mayor Olivia Chow that could push the end-date for the agreement governing Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to as late as 2045. It had been set to expire in 2033.
