The GTA is making key reductions in emissions, but a provincial policy is cancelling them out

Millions of people across Toronto and this region made changes that reduced their personal carbon emissions last year, but those efforts were cancelled out by the provincial government’s policy of ramping up natural gas-fired electricity generation, according to the most recent accounting of emissions.

A report that found emissions rose by two per cent in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area points out that reductions in emissions from heating and EV adoption were nullified by the increased reliance on gas plants.
