An off-duty Toronto police officer has been found guilty of assault in the high-profile 2021 clash that began with a Kijiji deal gone bad and ended, hours later, in the death of a 19-year-old Brampton man.
In her ruling, delivered in a Brampton courthouse Wednesday, Justice Jennifer Woollcombe said she did not believe much of off-duty Toronto Const. Calvin Au’s “unreliable” evidence and found the force he used on victim Chadd Facey was unreasonable, noting he posed no physical threat and had no reason to believe he had a weapon.
