Lake effect snow explained: Which of Ontario’s ‘snow belt’ areas get hit the hardest in the winter?

Lake effect snow in Ontario can pack a wintery punch and dump a lot of snow in intense snow bands that come off the lake.

Environment Canada has issued snow squall alerts for several parts of Ontario including Orillia, Lagoon City, Washago, Barrie, Collingwood, Hillsdale and surrounding communities. Northern Kawartha Lakes is also under the same snow squall watch as a blast of winter weather is expected to begin Friday evening (Nov. 29).
