Woman dead after being shot in Toronto’s east end

A woman in her thirties is dead after being shot in Toronto’s east end Sunday evening. 

Police say the shooting happened near Danforth Avenue and Jones Avenue just before 7 p.m. 

Officers found the victim inside a building in the area and starting life-saving measures, said Duty Insp. Todd Jocko, who spoke to reporters at the scene Sunday evening. 

The woman was taken to a local trauma centre but later died from her injuries, Jocko said. 

Police arrested a man in his twenties at the scene and recovered a firearm.

Jocko said police couldn’t provide any details on what may have led up to the shooting or the relationship between the victim and shooter at this time as the investigation is in its early stages. 

As of 7:30 p.m., Jones Avenue was closed to traffic as police carried out their investigation.
