Assault charges dropped against pro-Palestinian protester who was ‘defending his wife’ by shoving police officer

The charges against a pro-Palestinian protester who shoved a police officer and was then repeatedly hit and restrained with a knee on his neck during an arrest one year ago have been dropped.

Adam Melanson, 33, said he was acting in defence of his wife, who had just been struck by a police officer’s bike. The Star observed him running up to the officer, who was still mounted on his bike, and pushing him to the ground.
