Infrastructure Ontario ‘strongly encouraged’ friendships with major bidders, ex-St. Mike’s exec. says in defence at $300M fraud trail

When Vas Georgiou assumed the responsibility of operations at St. Michael’s Hospital, including overseeing its expansion, he was obligated to adhere to conflict of interest guidelines.

Nine years after he was fired as chief administrative officer, the Toronto native spent last week on the witness stand, responding to accusations that while in that position he violated those guidelines by secretly providing advice to the owner of a large construction company bidding on the $300-million renovation project.
