Toronto police call for OPP review officer testimony at Umar Zameer trial; ‘full internal review’ of plainclothes policy

Toronto police have called in the Ontario Provincial Police to conduct an investigation into concerns raised by the trial judge about officers’ testimony in the case of Umar Zameer, who was acquitted Sunday of all charges in the death of Const. Jeffrey Northrup.

“Whenever the Toronto Police Service becomes aware of concerns raised by the judiciary, its governance requires that a review be conducted with respect to officer testimony, conduct, procedures, practices, and training,” Toronto police said in a statement Monday evening.
