After an early morning truck rollover on the QEW, police say a nine-year-old boy has died.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said, in a post to X at 1:37 a.m. Monday, that the westbound QEW was closed at the Bronte Road exit in Oakville, Ont., “due to a single vehicle rollover.” The post showed a picture of a pickup truck in the ditch at the side of the highway, which has since reopened.
He said that three people were in the vehicle and two were taken to hospital.
In an update just after 6 a.m., Schmidt said on X that a 9-year-old child had died. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was being treated in hospital for critical injuries.
Schmidt said the driver did not appear to be impaired and the other passenger was not injured.
More to come.
