Toronto police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a cell phone store in Scarborough.
Officers were called to the store in the Kingston and McCowan Roads area at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say suspects smashed display cases and stole a quantity of merchandise before fleeing in a dark-coloured vehicle. No suspect descriptions are currently available.
No injuries were reported.
The owner’s son, Saqlain Sarosh, spoke with CityNews, saying there were two customers in the store alongside him and his father at the time of the robbery.
“One guy held open the door, three guys rushed in and started breaking everything, demanding money from the register. Fortunately, I was able to hold my own with one of the people and not open the register,” shared Sarosh.
He said they had security doors, but poor timing allowed the suspects to enter.
“We have doors that require being unlocked by a remote to open. And it’s just a poor coincidence that our customer was leaving when the robbers came to our store.”
The investigation is ongoing.
A separate smash-and-grab jewellery store robbery was confirmed at a mall in Mississauga this week, where multiple suspects were caught on video smashing display cases and stealing items.
