‘It’s a small action but it matters’: Toronto’s icky litter bins to get a makeover

The city is trashing some of its old sidewalk garbage bins and replacing them with new ones that are more durable and have wider openings less likely to get clogged.

The bins will have two garbage slots and one for recycling, reversing the current setup, and will also be fitted with a sensor that will alert staff when the bin is nearly full and in need of emptying, said Mayor Olivia Chow at an unveiling Thursday of one of the 1,000 or so new bins that will be installed on Toronto streets over the next several months.
