An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by the driver of a transport truck in north Etobicoke Friday morning, Toronto police say.

According to investigators, the incident happened in the area of Albion Road and Elmhurst Drive around 8:52 a.m.

The driver of the truck was going north on Albion Road when the child was struck as he was trying to cross the road, Duty Insp. Jeff Bangild told reporters at the scene.

The driver of the truck stopped, and the boy was rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children where he is in critical condition, police say.

Bangild said roads in the area will be closed for several hours for the investigation, and drivers are being asked to consider alternate routes.
