Death following tonsil surgery is so rare that the majority of ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists will go their entire career without seeing it happen.
“If they did tonsillectomy basically every day, they wouldn’t have a death — it’s that rare,” said Dr. David Francis, associate professor in otolaryngology at the University of Wisconsin. “This is an extremely safe surgery.”
