One person is dead and two others are injured after a three-vehicle collision in Markham on Monday afternoon, York Regional Police say.

One person is dead and two others are injured after a three-vehicle collision in Markham on Monday afternoon, York Regional Police say.

The multi-vehicle crash happened in the intersection of Don Mills Road and Simonston Boulevard, near Steeles Avenue East and Highway 404. Police were called to the area about 1:40 p.m.

Three people were taken to hospital. One was pronounced dead there, another person was seriously injured, while the third person was taken for assessment.

According to police, a large box truck crossed into opposite lanes and collided with two sedans. 

Roads north and south of the collision have been closed as police investigate.
