A man was shot dead on the front step of a home in Brampton on Friday and police say they have now located a stolen vehicle believed to be linked to the shooting.
Peel Regional Police say they have have found a stolen Honda Civic sedan they deemed a “vehicle of interest” after a member of the public saw it on the news. The suspects have not yet been found.
Officers were first called to a residence in the area of Sudeley Lane and Finegan Circle shortly after 8:30 a.m. by neighbours who reported hearing gunfire, said Const. Tyler Bell.
A 30-year-old man found with gunshot wounds was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bell did not provide any further information about the victim but said it appears he was shot outside.
“This investigation is in its infancy and information is limited,” he told reporters. “We don’t believe this to be a random shooting. Whether the victim was the intended target, that will come out in the forthcoming investigation.”
Anyone in the area with home security video or dash cam video from around the time of the shooting is asked to call police and to hold on to it, as officers will also be canvassing in the area over the next several days, Bell said.
Brampton resident Pavan Kumar said he was returning from a walk around the block Friday morning when he saw police cars rushing to the area of the shooting.
Children are often dropped off for school in the space that police have now sectioned off, he said.
Kumar said the neighborhood is typically very quiet, describing the shooting as “out of the blue.”
“I’m just hoping that it doesn’t happen ever again,” he said.
