Ontario’s police watchdog is looking for witnesses after a police officer in an unmarked vehicle struck a scooter, injuring the rider, in Whitby.
The Special Investigations Unit said in a news release that Toronto police were looking for a man in Whitby on Tuesday and found him while he was riding a scooter alongside another man at around 6:20 p.m.
One officer driving an unmarked police car hit the scooter in the parking lot of the Canadian Tire, at 4100 Garden Street, and another unmarked police vehicle struck one of the men.
An 18-year-old man who was riding the scooter was seriously injured and is in a Toronto hospital.
The other man was arrested after fleeing on foot and was not seriously injured.
