Canada Day celebrations taking place across the GTA

There’s lots happening across the GTA for Canada Day weekend.

In Toronto’s Distillery District, there will be the chance to catch some live music and watch the EuroCup games on a big screen.

“Canada Day in the Distillery is full of things to do,” said Rik Ocvirk, director of experiences and events for the Distillery District.

“There will be free live music, a concert series, you can check out the dog friendly patios, and we’ve got the amazing retailers here in the distillery,” he said, adding the Lavazza Inclucity film festival is also running for the month.

The CN Tower also has some special activities planned for Canada Day weekend.

“Canada Day is really one of those days we roll out the red carpet and celebrate with our guests,” said Robert Ng, director of attractions.

“Starting at the base of the tower, you’ll find our augmented reality Canada Day filter. Once you get inside, we have flags for everyone, and then we have an exclusive Canada Day cupcake and a special edition Canada Day beer can,” he said.

If you’re craving some more natural views, Parks Canada sites will have free admission on Monday, July 1.

And if a baseball field is your kind of greenery, then you can catch the Blue Jays at their annual Canada Day game at the Rogers Centre, as the team takes on the Houston Astros Monday.

Canada’s Wonderland is leaning into the celebrations, too.

Grace Peacock, director of communications at Canada’s Wonderland, says this weekend kicks of Celebration Canada, which keeps the festivities going for 10 days in a row.

“We have family activities, kid friendly ax throwing, live music, cultural performances and great Canadian food,” Peacock said.

“This year we’re doing two nights of fireworks; Sunday, June 30 and Monday, July 1 at 10 p.m.,” she said, adding that fireworks are included with admission to the park.

There will also be fireworks displays at 10 p.m. at Ashbridges Bay, Centennial Park, Milliken Park and Stan Wadlow Park.
