A temporary café on Ward’s Island to replace the one destroyed by a devastating fire could be up and running this summer, despite objections by some islanders.
The operators signed an agreement with the City of Toronto last Friday that will allow them to sell food and ice cream out of a site on city parkland in front of the former Ward’s Island Association clubhouse, the historic building that burned down in March and was home to the café.
“It’s got a replacement value of close to a million dollars,” said one local, but “that just doesn’t reflect its value at all.”
