Man guilty in fatal sidewalk pushing of elderly Toronto woman; psychiatric assessment to come

Ryan Cunneen has been found guilty of manslaughter for pushing and killing an elderly woman in a random attack on a downtown Toronto sidewalk last year and will now undergo an assessment to determine whether he was not criminally responsible at the time due to a mental disorder.

Cunneen, 39, will return to court later this year following the psychiatric assessment jointly requested by the Crown and defence. Should the judge declare him not criminally responsible, he would likely remain detained in hospital, rather than be sent to prison.
