Police have charged two women with kidnapping in connection with the alleged abduction of a 5-year-old boy earlier this week on Montreal’s South Shore.

The women, 65 and 48, who were arrested in York Region, near Toronto, were scheduled to appear by video conference in a Longueuil, Que. courtroom on Wednesday.

The police have not yet said what relationship the women have with the family whose son was taken from their home in Brossard, Que., on Monday evening.

The abduction prompted police to issue an Amber Alert early Tuesday morning. It was cancelled later that day after the boy was found safe.
