Durham police are asking people who are planning to be out on Lake Ontario as the weather warms this year to be on the lookout for signs of a senior who has been missing since the fall of 2023.
In a news release issued Wednesday, police said 87-year-old Manfred has been missing since last September.
“We are republishing this incident as summer approaches, in an effort to remind those who are putting their boats back on the water, and those who are out on waterways, to be on the lookout for any suspicious items in the water that may assist in this investigation,” a Durham police spokesperson said in an email.
“We are hoping as the weather warms and more boaters are out, that we will receive additional information that will help us to figure out exactly what happened to Manfred and his boat last year.”
Investigators say they believe Manfred left his home on Sept. 29 and was seen at Frenchman’s Bay Marina in Pickering where he boarded his sailboat at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Manfred is described as a white man with a medium build, around five feet, 10 inches tall with grey hair. He was last seen wearing an orange and red hat, a blue shirt and beige pants.
Police said his sailboat “Passat” is 25 feet long with a blue haul and is registered under Ontario ID 50E99759.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
