Durham Region police recruit charged with sexual assault

Toronto police say a former Ontario Police College recruit has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation, and they believe there are more victims.

William Knight, 31, of Toronto, was arrested last week.

Police say Knight is facing 11 charges, including:

  • False representation as a peace officer.

  • Three counts of sexual interference.

  • Three counts of sexual assault.

  • One count each of making, possessing, and accessing child pornography.

  • One count of making available child pornography.

Knight is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.

It is alleged Knight used social media and online applications to communicate with youth and misrepresented himself as a police officer to gain the trust of his victims.

Police say he allegedly met with his victims in person, took them to a bar and purchased alcoholic beverages for them, knowing they were not of legal drinking age.

Knight allegedly sexually assaulted them and filmed a victim without their knowledge.

In a statement, Durham Regional Police Service says Knight was a Durham constable in training and was not yet a sworn officer. They say he has since resigned and is no longer employed by the police service.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
