Toronto police officers were on fireworks duty Monday night — with two people injured after one altercation resulted in a stabbing.
Toronto police were called to Lake Shore Boulevard W. and Parkside Drive in the west end around 10:45 p.m. Monday.
A man in his 30s was taken to the hospital, police said later that night in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
A second man took himself to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, police said.
On Tuesday morning, Const. Caroline de Kloet said the man in his 30s had “wounds to the back.” She did not provide an update on his condition.
Police said two groups of men reportedly pointed fireworks at one another, which de Kloet said “escalated into a physical altercation.”
Police said an arrest has been made and details are expected to be released later on Tuesday.
Further north, in the area surrounding Christie Pits park, police intervened as fireworks were set off by several people after sunset Monday.
Video footage shows some individuals walking and jogging along Bloor Street W., setting off fireworks as they went.
Roughly 700 people were in the park to mark the end of the long weekend, de Kloet said, and patrolling police officers cleared out the park by 11 p.m.
A video posted on Twitter Monday night shows a number of people taking part in the fight.
Police said they confiscated “several bags of fireworks” and no injuries or property damage were reported.
One person was arrested inside Christie Pits park, but de Kloet said that was “unrelated to fireworks.”
