Jazz festival and soccer kick off Toronto’s weekend festivities

There’s no shortage of festivals for Torontonians to enjoy this weekend — from jazz to wine to soccer. 

The month-long Beaches International Jazz Festival is is one option that celebrates the history of local artists. The festival runs from July 5 until July 28. 

The jazz festival is one of the largest in Canada, according to the festival’s website. Performances will be held at various parks around the city. 

Musicians over the July 5-7 weekend will perform at Jimmie Simpson Park. In a news release, event organizers said the event has thousands of attendees each year.

The Taste of Lawrence street festival in Scarborough is also running this weekend.

Toronto Jazz Festival returns to the city for 37th year

The Toronto Jazz fest is swinging back into the city for its 37th year. It runs from June 21 to June 30 and has countless free and ticketed performances for people to enjoy. Dwight Drummond caught up with some of the festival’s acts to see what this year has in store.

According to their website, there are over 150 food vendors, midway rides, music and a stunt dog show.

Located in the Birchmount Road section of Lawrence Avenue, the cultural celebration will include a wide assortment of food and performances, according to the event’s website.

For wine enthusiasts, Wine Fest is coming to downtown Toronto this weekend. The festival takes place from July 5 to July 7 and will take place rain or shine, event organizers said in a news release. 

Those that attend can choose from four three-hour sessions and taste wines from California, Niagara-on-the-lake, South Africa, Chile, Italy, Rioja, Spain, New Zealand and more, organizers said in a news release.

For soccer fans, Cafe Cafe Diplomatico in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood is showing the Canada vs Venezuela COPA  America game July 5. The game starts at 9 p.m EST.
