A man is dead after a triple shooting early Thursday morning, Toronto police said.
Police said they responded to multiple reports of a shooting near Queen Street W. and Portland Street just after 2:30 a.m.
At a news conference, Det.-Sgt. Trevor Grieve from the force’s homicide and missing persons unit said officers found three victims after they arrived.
A 30-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two others, a 36-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, have non-life threatening injuries, he said.
Grieve said the shooting may have been targeted.
“I do believe targeted, but to what extent I don’t know,” he said, later adding that police aren’t aware of any relationships between the three victims.
“There might have been an interaction that happened earlier, I’m not sure yet,” Grieve said. “It’s just too early for me to know.”
He said the shooting took place on a sidewalk, and the suspect vehicle involved is a dark-coloured, two-door sedan.
Officers are working with local businesses to retrieve security footage and are hoping to speak to people in the area Wednesday night.
“For the residents specifically here, I don’t believe there’s any safety concerns for them,” said Grieve. “There were a lot of people here last night, and I’m asking for the public’s assistance.”
Queen Street W. is closed while officers investigate, police have said.
