A school bus driver has been charged after a woman died in hospital days after she was struck by his vehicle in the city’s east end, according to Toronto police.
In a news release on Thursday, police said the 60-year-old driver turned himself in on Thursday and was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and careless driving causing death.
The woman, 22, was struck on Oct. 9, 2024 in the area of at Kingston and Kingswood roads. Officers were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m.
Police said the school bus, which was eastbound on Kingston Road, made a left hand turn to head north on Kingswood Road, when it hit the woman while she was in a crosswalk, walking west on Kingston Road.
Paramedics took the woman with life-threatening injuries to hospital, where she died on Oct. 13, 2024.
The school bus driver remained on scene. He is due to appear in court to face the charges on March 8.
