Victim identified as Dmitri Smith, 32, of Toronto
A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a stabbing in North York Friday, police say.
Toronto police said the incident took place before 7 a.m., outside a residential building near the intersection of Weston Road and Sheppard Avenue West.
In a news release Saturday, investigators identified the victim as 32-year-old Dmitri Smith of Toronto, who died in hospital after the stabbing. Police said he was allegedly stabbed with a “sharp edged weapon” during the altercation.
A 46-year-old man was arrested at the scene Friday morning. He is facing one count of first-degree murder, the release said.
Insp. Peter Wehby said Friday the stabbing was a “very targeted” incident, and the two men appeared to have known each other, though he could not comment on the relationship.
The suspect appeared in court virtually on Friday.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact investigators.
