Man charged with impaired driving after fatal crash in Thornhill

A man was charged with impaired driving causing death after a fatal crash in Thornhill on Monday afternoon, York police say.

The collision happened at about 1:40 p.m. in the intersection of Don Mills Road and Simonston Boulevard, near Steeles Avenue E. and Highway 404.

Police said the driver of a large box truck crossed into opposite lanes and collided with two sedans, trapping one person beneath the truck.

Three people were taken to hospital, where one was pronounced dead. Another person was seriously injured, while a third underwent a medical assessment, paramedics said.

Police have not provided any further details about the crash or the person who was killed.

The man charged with impaired driving also faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, police said Tuesday.
