Man dead after Brampton shooting, Peel police say

Peel police are investigating after a Brampton shooting left a Toronto man dead early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to a business plaza near Kennedy Road S. and Stafford Drive around 4:16 a.m. after reports of gunfire.

They found a man in his 40s inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds, police spokesperson Tyler Bell said on Saturday.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted incident, Bell told reporters at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, a bar was busy in the area, police said. It is unclear whether the cars and people fleeing the gunfire included suspects, Bell said.

“It’s quite concerning for members of the community to go about their business, to come to their local establishments where they come regularly and find out something horrific has happened,” Bell said.

The public is asked to avoid the area as police investigate.

The circumstances around the death are unknown at this time, police said. No suspect description has been released as of yet.
