A man is dead after a GO Train hit a vehicle in Vaughan on Tuesday afternoon and the collision is affecting rail traffic on the Barrie line, officials say.
Rail traffic in the area stopped following the collision and had not yet resumed as of 3 p.m. In an update on its website, Metrolinx said police are investigating but regular service is expected to resume shortly.
The collision happened south of Rutherford GO station near Rivermede and Bowes Roads, York Regional Police said. Police were called to the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m.
Police said the man, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Trains will not be able to move through the area until given permission,” the provincial transit agency said in an earlier update.
Metrolinx said customers on the way to Highway 407 station can take a bus shuttle to Rutherford GO to connect with service.
The Union Station 14:54 p.m. to Bradford GO 16:07 p.m. train has been cancelled due to the collision. Customers can board the next train scheduled to depart Union Station at 15:53 p.m.
The Aurora GO 14:57 p.m. to Union Station 15:47 p.m. train was also cancelled.
Metrolinx said there are delays affecting the southbound Allandale Waterfront GO to Union Station and the northbound Union Station to Bradford GO.
