One person was killed Monday in a house fire in Markham, Ont., police and paramedics say.

A man was killed Monday in a house fire in Markham, Ont., police say.

Emergency services were called to a home on Ressor Road, north of Steeles Avenue, shortly after 3 p.m.

York Regional Police said the house was engulfed in flames. An adult male was found inside.

York Region Paramedics said medics assessed one patient, who was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A spokesperson for Toronto Fire said it sent a couple fire trucks to assist following a request from Markham Fire and Emergency Services.

CBC Toronto has reached out to Markham Fire but has not yet received a response.

A police spokesperson is set to hold a press conference at the scene on Monday evening.
