Man dies in hospital after he was struck by TTC bus outside station

A man has died in hospital after he was hit by a TTC bus outside Ossington subway station Tuesday night, Toronto police say.

Officers were initially called to the scene, at Ossington Avenue and Bloor Street West, at about 8:30 p.m.

Police said the man, a pedestrian, was taken to a trauma centre for treatment. He later died of his injuries, police said early Wednesday.

Police have not said anything further about the circumstances of the collision.

In a statement, TTC CEO Greg Percy offered condolences to the “family, friends and loved ones of the deceased.”

“Incidents like this, while rare, are difficult for everyone. They serve as a reminder of why we treat the safety and security of our customers and employees as our top priorities,” Percy said, adding the bus driver involved will also be provided any support they require.

“At this time, [Toronto police] are still investigating and we will, as always, provide all of our assistance as they work to determine exactly what happened,” he continued.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Toronto police’s traffic services.
