Ontario party leaders speak with media as U.S. trade war takes centre stage in snap election

Ontario’s major party leaders will pitch their tariff response plans

Good morning, voters. It’s tariff eve in Ontario and we’re expecting President Donald Trump’s economic bombshell to dominate discussion on the campaign trail.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles is set to speak in Oshawa at 9 a.m. ET — a community that could be hard hit due to its connection to the auto industry. We’re expecting to hear about the NDP’s plan to respond to the tariffs.

PC Leader Doug Ford — who has aimed to make the tariffs the top issue ahead of the Feb. 27 election — will be holding a news conference in Etobicoke at 10 a.m. ET.

Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner is also set to speak at that time, so we’ll monitor his remarks as well.

Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie is then set to lay out her own response to the trade war at a 12:30 p.m. ET campaign stop in Kitchener.

Check back on this story to get the latest on what each leader is promising to do.
