York police are searching for three suspects after a man was kidnapped in Vaughan in the early hours of Friday.
Insp. Paolo Fiore of the York Regional Police Service’s homicide unit told reporters Saturday police were called to a building on Westcreek Drive Friday around 6 a.m. for a report of suspicious circumstances.
Officers who responded located an empty black Range Rover and some personal belongings nearby, all of which they later determined belonged to Roberto Marchioni, 57, a Toronto resident, Fiore said.
Surveillance footage showed Marchioni his place of business around 2:15 a.m. when two suspects attacked him and forced him into a grey Honda CRV LX before fleeing the area, Fiore said.
“At this time, his whereabouts are unknown,” Fiore said. “We are very concerned for his well-being and so is his family.”
2 suspect vehicles identified
The suspect vehicle was last seen driving east on Langstaff Road and then south on Highway 400, according to police.
Investigators have also identified a second suspect vehicle, which Fiore said was a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with “electronic-powered running boards that retract.”
Fiore said police are currently pursuing three men, all of whom are described as having light-coloured skin, dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks.
Police are appealing to the public for help identifying the suspects and finding Marchioni.
They are asking anyone who was driving in the area of Highway 7 and Rutherford Road or Highway 400 and Weston Road between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. to check their dashcam footage for the suspect vehicles.
Investigators are also asking anyone else who may have information to contact their homicide unit or to make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
