Police have laid charges against five people after search warrants in the Greater Toronto Area and Gravenhurst uncovered nearly 300 kilograms of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of roughly $29 million.
The search warrants were executed as a result of an investigation dubbed Project Shearwater launched by the Ontario Provincial Police’s guns and gangs enforcement team in September 2024, police said in a news release Monday.
The investigation was focused on a cocaine trafficking network spanning throughout the GTA.
The first search warrant was executed on Dec. 13, 2024, when police searched a residence and vehicle in Mississauga.
Police executed 10 more search warrants between Jan. 16 and 17 in Toronto, Ajax, Markham and Gravenhurst, the news release said.
One of the accused is a Mexican national, who is facing removal by the Canada Border Services Agency.
The other four accused are facing a combined 11 drug-related charges.
