Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a Toronto police SUV collided with an ATV on Monday night.
The collision happened shortly after 10 p.m. in the area of Jane Street and Giltspur Drive, in North York.
There were conflicting reports from emergency services early Tuesday about how many people were hurt and the extent of their injuries.
Paramedics said two people were taken to hospital, one in serious but non-life threatening condition and the other with minor injuries. Meanwhile, police said only one person was hurt and that their injuries were minor.
Police also confirmed that no officers were injured in the collision.
No other information about the people involved in the incident were immediately available.
According to Toronto Fire, one person became wedged beneath the police cruiser during the crash and had to be extracted by crews on scene.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is expected to provide more details later Tuesday. It’s not clear what preceded the crash.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police officers in incidents that may have resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
