In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says a spokesperson is heading to the scene.
The shooting happened in the area of Warden Avenue and Ellesmere Road, according to Toronto police. Officers were called to the area shortly after 3 p.m.
Toronto paramedics said they took a man with life-threatening injuries to hospital.
Police said Warden Avenue is closed between Canadian and Ellesmere roads as the investigation continues.
