A rainfall warning is in effect for Toronto with torrential downpours in store for early evening, Environment Canada says.
The weather agency says 30 to 50 millimetres could fall within a couple of hours.
“Heavy showers and thunderstorms are affecting portions of the Greater Toronto Area. Intense rainfall rates are likely, although they will be localized rather than widespread,” it says on its website.
Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads, the agency says.
Anyone near rivers, creeks or culverts should watch for possible washouts, it adds.
