A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for areas north of Toronto Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada says.
Barrie, Midland and Orillia are all under a warning, while the federal department has put Toronto under a severe thunderstorm watch.
In a release, Environment Canada says its meteorologists are currently tracking storms “capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail” as they pass through Ontario.
Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Innisfil and Gravenhurst can all expect winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour, it says, while Toronto can expect winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour.
Environment Canada advises people to “take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”
