U of T issues alert after woman assaulted on Mississauga campus

The University of Toronto is alerting students and faculty after it says a woman was assaulted by an unknown man at its Mississauga campus on Sunday.

The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Communication, Culture and Technology building, according to the alert from the Mississauga campus’s safety team.

The alert says the suspect “physically overtook and assaulted a female,” before fleeing the area. It’s unclear if the woman was a student or staff.

The suspect is described as 19-23 years old, approximately six feet tall with a slim build, short black hair and a “tanned complexion.” He was wearing black rimmed glasses, a blue polo shirt and a black knapsack, the alert said.

The campus safety team says it is actively investigating the incident with Peel Regional Police and will pay special attention to the area on its patrols.

Peel police say the victim suffered minor injuries and that the incident is not believed to be motivated by hate.

The university is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact UTM Campus Safety at 416-978-2222.
