Peel police have issued a public safety alert saying weapons were seen in a demonstration near a Hindu temple in Brampton on Monday night.
Residents were warned to stay away from the demonstration on The Gore Road near Tyler Avenue. The area is close to the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple.
In the alert posted on X, formerly Twitter, police said the weapons were observed within the crowds. Police said its public order unit was deployed in the area.
“This is now an unlawful assembly and we will be clearing the area,” police said on X.
Police said members of its public order unit advised people at the demonstration to disperse.
“All parties must leave the area now or face arrest,” police added.
A CBC photographer observed a protester kicking a car attempting to cross the intersection of the Gore Road and Don Minaker Drive after the driver honked at the crowd.
The crowd had blocked traffic after marching from the temple.
The demonstration comes hours after police announced on Monday that three men were charged following violence in Brampton and Mississauga on Sunday. Police said violence erupted between groups of protesters at a series of demonstrations in those two cities.
Those demonstrations were outside the same Hindu temple where the protest took place on Monday night as well as a Sikh gurdwara.
