6 charged in Brampton butter thefts

Peel Regional Police have arrested six people after an investigation into the theft of large quantities of butter and ghee from grocery stores throughout the Brampton area.

The investigation, dubbed Project Flaherty, began in December 2024 when authorities became aware of over $60,000 worth of products being stolen.

“This is an increase of nearly 135 per cent compared to 2023 and there were over 180 similar incidents reported to Peel Regional Police,” a release says.

Three individuals were charged with possession of property obtained by crime. They are:

• Vishavjeet Singh, 22, of no fixed address
• Sukmander Singh, 23, of Brampton
• Dalwal Sidhu, 28, of Brampton

Three others were charged with theft under $5,000. They are:

• Navdeep Chaudhary, 22, of Brampton
• Kamaldeep Singh, 38, of no fixed address
• Harkerat Singh, 25, of no fixed address

Police say the investigation continues and includes businesses which may have been buying the stolen products.
