Police in Durham Region are on the hunt for three carjacking suspects after investigators say they purposely crashed into a Mercedes SUV and then stole it at gunpoint when the driver exited the vehicle to assess the damage.
It happened on Saturday, Dec. 7, at around 10:50 p.m. in Taunton and Altona roads area of Pickering.
“The victim was driving his vehicle, a black Mercedes G550 SUV, eastbound on Taunton Road when the suspect vehicle intentionally collided with him,” a release from Durham Regional Police outlines.
“When the victim got out of his vehicle, he was confronted by two males, one armed with a handgun.”
The third suspect waited in the suspect vehicle, a black sedan.
When the victim got out of his SUV, the suspects demanded his keys and fled in his vehicle. They were last seen driving westbound down Taunton.
No injuries were reported.
Suspect #1 is described as around six feet tall, wearing a blue medical mask, black coat and blue gloves.
Suspect #2 is described as approximately five feet 10 inches tall, wearing a blue medical mask, black coat and blue gloves.
No description is available for the third suspect.
