Driver charged after pedestrian fatally struck in North York

The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian last month in North York has been charged, Toronto police said in a release Monday.

Investigators say a 67-year-old woman was driving a grey 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe on the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Keele Street on Jan. 9, at around 6:50 a.m.

When she made a right turn to travel northbound on Keele Street, she struck a pedestrian who was trying to cross Keele, the release said.

A 34-year-old man was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene.

On Monday, Jan. 29, 2025, she was charged with careless driving causing death.

Police did not name the accused.
