A Mississauga school remains in a hold and secure hours after a man was shot at a home in the area.
Peel Regional Police say the shooting took place at around 10 a.m. at a residence on Beacon Lane near Perivale Road, which is less than half a kilometre away from St. David of Wales School.
The close proximity prompted a hold and secure at the school that remains in effect.
The suspect is believed to still be holed up inside the home and there’s a large police presence in the area as a result.
“He is believed to possibly be armed,” an officer on scene told CityNews. “It is my understanding that he is believed to be in a residence, I’m not sure if it’s his residence.”
The victim, a man believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
Police describe the shooting as “targetted” and say the victim and suspect know each other, but didn’t give details on the nature of their relationship.
