Police in Durham Region have arrested a 13-year-old student who allegedly made threats against an elementary school in Oshawa.
Authorities say the teen made a threat to numerous people on social media and stated that Pierre Elliot Trudeau Public School was going to get “shot up.”
Police responded by pulling up to the teen’s home on Friday evening and placing them under arrest. However, it is unclear what charges they will face.
“Police take all threats to school safety very seriously and conduct thorough investigations to protect students, staff, and the community,” the Durham Regional Police Service said in a statement.
“In this incident, investigators have determined there is no risk to public safety, and no viable threat to the school,” the force added.
