A man from Toronto is facing impaired driving charges following a collision in Whitby, with police confirming the accused had two children with him in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Durham Regional Police received a call about a suspected impaired driver just after 7:30 p.m. on June 16 in the Lakeridge Road and Victoria Street area.
Callers reported a man driving dangerously on Highway 401, allegedly weaving between vehicles. The driver was seen exiting the highway at Lakeridge Road, where police responded and learned that the driver had been involved in a collision.
Officers determined that the man was showing signs of alcohol impairment, and two children aged 6 and 11 had been in the black SUV with the man at the time of the reported crash. The man was arrested at the scene, and no injuries were reported.
Police said a 40-year-old man from Toronto was charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired, operation while impaired — exceed and failing to comply with a probation order.
A police spokesperson noted that the man completed two alcohol breath tests, which revealed 190 mg in 100 ml of blood. The legal driving limit is 80 mg in 100 ml of blood. As a result, the man’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for one week.
