Active shooter investigation underway in Barrie’s north end, immediate area evacuated

Police have evacuated an area in Barrie’s north end on Tuesday after reports of an active shooter in a mobile home.

Officers are investigating and have blocked a significant area of Bayfield Street near Heather Street.

Barrie police posted a tweet on Tuesday just past noon, after they received information about a possible firearm in a vehicle in a parking lot on Bayfield Street.

Officials told CTV News that at least one gunshot was fired.

Tactical vehicles rammed a white camper located in a parking lot, and police tell CTV News the suspect is barricaded inside.

Workers at nearby businesses say the RV has been in the parking lot for at least a month.

Crisis negotiators have been called to the scene, and officials say contact has been made with the person in the vehicle.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials are asking the public to avoid the area to allow the investigation to proceed.
