Mother charged after infant dies in midtown Toronto: police

The mother of an infant who died after being found at an apartment building in midtown Toronto on Wednesday has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

In a news release, Toronto police said that the baby’s father had contacted police to report that the four-month-old baby was missing.

Police attended the residential building near Roselawn and Marlee avenues and found the child, however the baby was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A suspect identified as Karessa Edwards, 30, of Toronto, was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Police say that the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit is monitoring the investigation.
